16th AugustToday we started the ball rolling on ordering wheels for the car. As the car will be running on Formula Renault uprights I will have to have wheels made to accomodate the larger F1 tyres as the original FR wheels are not large enough. With an eight week lead time I can only wait now whilst the dampers and other front suspension parts are being made at the same time...

11th AugustGreat news this week, whilst I wait for the dampers to be completed I have been offered a few parts that will cut down on some cost. I am also looking at a wheel solution so I can run F1 tyres on the Formula Renault uprights. I belive the most cost effective way is to buy two sets of wheels and have a plate made that allows these to be fitted onto my uprights...

1st AugustDampers now ordered here in the UK with a six week lead time. Still plenty of other things to do in that six weeks such as making up rockers and torsion bars, due date for the dampers is now mid September

15th July 2019Well, after a large amount of chasing about thats the damping sorted. I am waiting to see if there are a pair in a lock up in Europe from the original sale or if I have them made up. 7th JulyThis week I have been in dialogue with Suppliers of a potential damper. This may take a few weeks to bottom out as I am trying to get a unit custom built to fit into the small space used by Penske and designed by John Illey. No one said this would be easy but seeing the F1 cars at this years Goodwood FOS on the TV has inspired me to get the only running Caterham F1 car in the world going again...

30th June 2019No progress this week as we wait for Penske to come back to me about the front damping. I have now been provided with alternative suppliers so will follow these leads. So near but need to get this sorted before we run the car.

22nd June 2019After a stressful week with updates from Penske to say that supplying a front damper would cost in excess of £10,000 we are back to the question on whether damping is sufficiant from the front tyres. I keep hearing that the loads placed onto the car will generate additional heat in the tyres but as we will be running short stints of say 20 minutes at a time, this should not impair performance...

15th June 2019We now have reached the conclusion that the final handfull of front suspension damping parts will need to be made. This means me taking the CAD to the relevant suppliers to have the parts tailor made over the next couple of weeks. Materials will be slightly heavier than was originally used by the team but with equal stregnth to keep down costs...

9th June 2019This week we reached the conclusion that the parts needed for the front end damping will have to be made, luckily I have all the relevant design files. Initial views were that we could run a solid car but that would mean slowing the entire car down so it could take corners, not ideal, By putting back the original damping the car will be limited in performance by its power rather than design...

2nd June 2019This week the chassis had an old fuel tank exchanged, the original donor car from Hillspeed was a mess so the new tank came from the new donor car. The electronics were connected so the wheel lights up and at the moment all the focus is the last few front suspension parts we need to complete the build...

18th May 2019This week the Formula Renault rear end was transferred across to Caterham CT05#1 and this is all working perfectly. The engine from the donor car is being used for now as it is a complete set up with the gearbox, so no need to introduce additional concerns or issues by trying to match up two seperate working units...

3rd May 2019We now have the rear end from the new donor car being transported across to meet its new Caterham CT05#1 front end. Keep an eye out for pictures over the next week or two. This was a step backwards but the new rear end is in really good condition with a rebuilt gearbox so will be worth the wait.

7th April 2019A few more issues this week with old Formula Renault parts but a new donor car has been found to replace the fatigued parts. Seat fitting booked in for a couple of weeks time with a little extra so please keep an eye out during the middle to end of April

Latest News15th March - We now have a final plan, the additional damping was not a realistic option for 2019 so I may have to go back to it next winter however that means final assembly a commisioning can now commence. Watch this space for update photos by the end of next week as the final step in this long journey begins...

Latest News10th March 2019 - The big talking point this week has been how to damp the car. Initially the plan was to have no forward damping and fix the front end with the tyres taking most of the suspension however after speaking to the guys with experiance that option would have made the car slower as it would have had "bounce" from the tyres rather than damping...
